I’ve always been fascinated by the extreme demand on the DSLRs in the market today, one of which is the Nikon D5000. More and more people are getting into photography. It has slowly been dominating the time and life of many individuals all over the world. Social media sites like Facebook are partly the reason to this increased interest on photography. The good thing about this is the more people are getting interested in photography, the better cameras we get. We all want to “capture the moment” like a real pro even though we are just learning what on earth pixels mean.

This review will focus on the Nikon D5000.

Introducing the Nikon D5000

This Nikon baby has a lot to boast, starting with its 12.3-megapixel image quality, a tilt-and-swivel LCD monitor, and the familiar 11-point Autofocus which it inherits from its predecessors. With the many digital SLR’s in the market today, the Nikon D5000 remains an ideal option for both starters and pros although it is mainly classified as an “upper entry level” DSLR.

How’s the image quality of the Nikon D5000?

With its 12.3-megapixel image quality, Nikon really delivers the image quality you have always been dreaming of. Match it with the EXPEED image processing, which pretty much does all the work for you, you can bet on high quality pictures one after the other with the D5000. The automatic white balance helps you out in producing realistic photos. This means you can print out really large photos without worrying about it being pixilated.

If you aren’t satisfied with the photos you took with the Nikon D5000, why not edit them?

Nikon D5000 also has the capability for in-camera editing. A lot of these features have already been handed down from Nikon cameras produced in the past. Among them are Distortion control, Color filters, and In-camera image-resizing. Thanks to Nikon’s undying mission of making cameras better for us, new features were added to these: Perspective control, Colour outline and Soft-filter effect. Now can you say awesome? Not yet? Fine, continue reading.

What are the different Picture Control Settings available in the Nikon D5000?

The picture control settings are Standard, Neutral, Vivid, Monochrome, Portrait, Landscape and 9 customizable settings.

Videos!

D-movie mode enables you to record high quality videos. Nikon D5000′s predecessors (except the Nikon D90) didn’t have this feature. I personally like this feature because this means I would not have to spend some more money on another camera since mine would do the job—I mean the jobs. This talented camera can record 24 frames per second with resolutions including 1280×720 (16:9), 640×424 (3:2), and 320×216 (3:2).

Nikon D5000 Auto-Exposure Modes

The Nikon D5000 has 19 different auto-exposure modes which help you come up with pictures just the way you want them. Among the auto-exposure modes are Auto, No Flash, Portrait, Landscape, Child, Sports, Close Up, Night Portrait and Scene.

How does the Auto-Exposure Modes work?

It makes things easier for you. For instance, by choosing Sports, the camera automatically adjusts the shutter at a faster speed. The right Auto-Exposure Mode is in fact a good way for you to achieve the image quality you are really looking for in whatever situation.

Built-in image sensor cleaning…what does it do?

The Built-in image sensor cleans the pictures you have taken. It clears it of spots or anything.

The tilt-and-swivel LCD screen

This is a pretty cool feature of Nikon D5000. The Vari-angle color LCD monitor can come in handy when you need to take difficult shots. Remember the days when you have to take a picture by raising your camera up and not really knowing if you’re getting in the frame whatever it is that you need? Well, those days have finally gone to an end. You can cover many different angles just by standing. Pretty cool, huh?

What can I say about the shutter?

The shutter is very impressive at what it can do. Shutter speed is 4 frames per second. You can really capture the moment without those annoying shooting lags

Other Special Features

The Nikon D5000 boasts of GPS geo-tagging. So it automatically identifies and records the latitude, longitude and altitude, with satellite time-of-day of each photo you take.

What else can I say about the Nikon D5000?

The Nikon 3D Color Matrix Metering evaluates the different segments of a single scene. The metering system looks into brightness, contrast, color and the subject’s distance for unmatched exposure accuracy.

What do other users say?

The Nikon D5000 is a wonderful camera. It has gotten a lot of good reviews from users. One user said that if he only had one camera and it was a Nikon D5000, he would be contented.

Another user particularly noted that the Nikon D5000 has made things easier without sacrificing the image quality.

Although, please note that Nikon had to recall some units in 2009 due to a defect in the camera’s power control chip. It’s all fixed now and so far what’s available in the market now are defect-free.

Where can I buy this camera?

Online, you can buy the Nikon D5000 at amazon.
