My Review Of The Nikon Coolpix P90
Sometimes you see a picture of your friend on Facebook and you tell yourself, “That isn’t just right.” With the rising popularity of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, as well as an easier and cheaper way to print as many photos as you want, a really good camera is now fast becoming an indispensable gadget. So, browsing through some nice possible choices for a camera that would work for me, I ran into the Nikon Coolpix P90. You know what, shove that phone cam into your bag, and don’t bother to take a picture of yourself using your webcam, the Nikon Coolpix P90 can be just the real deal. You don’t have to be a pro to realize that this camera from Nikon has something (or should I say a lot of) to be proud of. Read my Nikon P90 review and see for yourself.
Is It Easy To Use?
Well, yes it is. It looks like your typical D-SLR with a big tilting LCD screen for you to see the pictures that you have taken with it. It is great for beginners but not bad at all for pros.
What about the Quality of Pictures?
Nikon Coolpix P90 boasts of 12.1 megapixels. That means you can have a photo as large as 20 x 30 inches printed without having the photo pixilated. Photos taken with the P90 are sharp and full in color. Now, isn’t that just adorable? You can finally have that family picture taken and have the photo framed on the wall. Provided, of course, that you have the printer to finish the job
The file quality of the pictures has three available options: Fine, Normal, and Basic with Fine having the highest quality. Furthermore, you can sharpen the images using the camera as well. With the new EXPEED processor, you will be sure that you won’t miss special moments in your life.
What about its Zooming capabilities?
One of the best things a lot of people find amazing about this camera is its astounding 24x optical zoom and 4x digital. This means you can actually zoom into trees across the street and still get really good pictures! This beats your typical digital camera a long way since it can normally just zoom up to 6x.
Can the Camera handle my shaky hands?
With its vibration reduction technology, the Nikon Coolpix P90 allows you to take pictures even with some vibrations from your hands. You might say that a tripod is necessary in taking good pictures. But you know, while a tripod is ideal, this feature of P90 enables you to capture clear images even if your hands are shaking when taking pictures.
What about the Shutter?
I have two notable facts about the Nikon Coolpix P90, aside from the ones I already mentioned. The first one is that it has a Motion Detection technology. This means that your camera can detect when one of the subjects is moving. What does the camera do to deal with this? It adjusts its shutter speed to capture the image properly. Isn’t that cool?
There’s also the Best Shot Selector where the camera takes 10 pictures when the shutter is pressed and where the sharpest image is picked.
What Special Features And Benefits do the Canon Coolpix P90 has?
Nikon’s official website lists the following as the special features of a Nikon Coolpix P90:
- In-camera Red-eye Fix
- Face-Priority AF
- Smile Mode
- Blink Warning
- D-Lighting
The In-camera Red-eye Fix gives you an automatic helping hand when it comes to the red-eye effect which is a common problem of pictures taken using flash cameras. So even when you use a flash when taking pictures, the camera already gets rid of the red eye effect for you. Hence, you don’t need to use Adobe Photoshop or any other photo editing software to remove the red glare from your subject’s eyes.
Face-priority AF focuses on faces in the picture. It can identify up to twelve faces in a picture. Although the technology has been around for years, its benefits are something you can be really happy about. When taking a portrait picture for instance, it automatically detects the face of the person who you’re going to take a picture of and does an autofocus on it. This way, everything becomes faster and easier.
Smile Mode is a very exciting feature of P90 and of course Nikon cameras in general. It immediately takes a picture of the person as they smile. “One, two, three-say cheese!” is a thing of the past.
Are you one of those people who blink a lot while your pictures are taken? I am. I actually have a lot of pictures with my eyes closed because it feels so tempting to blink every time your picture is being taken, isn’t it? Nikon knows how hard it is to avoid so they have come up with the Blink Warning which shows a warning every time a subject blinks.
D-lighting makes necessary adjustment to the light settings of your camera for pictures that are too dark and need more lighting and brightness.
Any complaints about the product?
A lot of good things have been mentioned about the Nikon Coolpix P90 with only a few negative remarks about it. The official website of Nikon has the Nikon Coolpix P90 rating of 4/5. One commenter argued that the LCD monitor showed a picture whose quality is different from the one he uploaded to his computer. Another complains about the absence of the RAW format for file saving.
